Israel Railways announced on Wednesday its role in preserving the environment and reducing the use of disposable utensils, with each passenger receiving a discount on a cup of coffee if he arrives with his own reusable cup. So how much will you pay for a cup of coffee?
In a tender for the Israel Railways, the Strauss Company (Elite Coffee) once again won the national franchise to operate 50 stalls selling hot and cold drinks and food items at train stations throughout the country. The six-year concession period with the possibility of extension for another four years.
As part of the agreement, stalls that have been closed in recent months will be reopened, as well as extended operating hours, and the concessionaire will open manned stalls at other train stations, where no manned stall has operated to date, including: Yokneam Kfar Yehoshua, Migdal Haemek Kfar Baruch, Caesarea Pardes Hanna, Pati Modi'in, Raanana South and Ahihud.
But that's not all: Israel Railways has upped the ante when it comes to preserving the environment, and will automatically bring a discount on the purchase of hot drinks at train stations, to anyone who brings a reusable glass from home.
So how much will you pay? At the train stands in the new tender, the price of a bottle of mineral water will be NIS 7, and the price of a cup of hot coffee will be NIS 10, and those who bring a reusable cup from home will receive a discount of one shekel on the coffee. The agreement will enter into force in the coming weeks and with its entry into force the benefit will begin.
Recall that at the train stands the price of a bottle of mineral water will be 7 shekels, but in the vending machines the story is already completely different.
Already in 2009 the prices were in machines on the train relative even to vending machines placed in hospitals and the like. Also in the mineral water bottle segment, Israel Railways introduced high prices more than a decade ago. Although this time Ichilov Hospital won with NIS 6, followed by the train - NIS 5, the prices are still relatively high compared to the prices of machines placed elsewhere, such as the Technion at a price of only NIS 2.5. And how much in 2021? A half-liter bottle of cola cost NIS 10, as did a bottle of mineral water that doubled in price in a decade: NIS 10 like a bottle of cola.
