First time in a decade: Economy Minister Orna Barbibai and Jordan's Minister of Industry and Trade Yosef Alshamli met in Amman

For the first time in a decade, a meeting was held between the Ministers of Economy of Israel and Jordan.
Economy Minister Orna Barbibai and Jordan's Minister of Industry and Trade Yosef Alshamli met in Jordan for the first time in a decade, and discussed a variety of ways to strengthen economic relations between the two countries, as part of the desire to maintain a warm peace policy and deepen ties between the two countries.

During the meeting, the ministers discussed, among other things, the updating of the trade agreement between the two countries, mutual recognition of the norm and the expansion of tourism.
The ministers signed an agreement that may increase the quota of products that Jordan may export to the PA in the future. Israel recognizes the importance of economic cooperation with the Kingdom of Jordan, as a strategic goal for the stability of the region. Among the products and goods that may move from Jordan to the Palestinian Authority territories: Cement and construction products: carpets, clothing, electrical and electronic products | and more.
The meeting between the Minister of Economy and the Minister of Industry and Trade, and the signing of the trade agreement, emphasize the continuation of activities to strengthen civil ties between Israel and Jordan, to strengthen neighborly relations and to promote cooperation between the two countries. Israel hopes that the arrangement will strengthen the Jordanian economy and contribute to the continued growth of the kingdom. In addition, the agreement emphasizes the importance that Israel attaches to the promotion and development of the economies in the region and to the encouragement of regional trade.
The Minister of Economy and Industry, Orna Barbibai: "The trade benefits agreed between the Israeli government and Jordan today are an important step in strengthening diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Background: The Paris Agreements, which define the taxation and trade relations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, set out lists that allow the PA to establish import policies in terms of standards, regulation and taxation (customs). To determine the import policy as a whole, including the level of customs, standardization and regulation required as a condition for the entry of products on the list. On the other hand, a quota provided under List B allows the PA to set an import policy only in the matter of customs. They are not utilized, and a minority has been used to the extent of more than 50%. Extension of list A1 or B requires the consent of the Palestinians.
