Teva and the German company MODAG will develop a drug for the treatment of diseases of the central nervous system

Posted on Oct 27, 2021 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski

Teva and the German company MODAG yesterday signed an agreement for cooperation in the development and licensing of the leading drug of the German company Anle138b, and of a related drug: sery433.
The drug Anle138b developed by MODAG is intended for the treatment of diseases of the central nervous system: MSA and Parkinson's. The drug successfully completed in July 2020 the first phase of the clinical trial, which examined the safety profile of the drug in healthy volunteers.
According to the agreement signed between the companies, Teva (-1.44% 3080) will receive an exclusive global license for the development, production and marketing of the drugs. Agreements of this kind have been the main axis in Teva's business development in recent years, against the background of the ongoing financial crisis that the company is facing.

MSA (Multiple System Atrophy) is a degenerative disease of the nervous system that is characterized by disorders of the autonomic nervous system, for example, disorders of bladder function, erection, intestinal motility or regulation of blood pressure in combination with movement disorder.
Movement disorder often manifests itself through Parkinson-like symptoms, lack of coordination, walking problems or speech disorders. The disease affects 40,000 people in the United States, the European Union and Japan - that is, an incidence of four per 100,000, and 6,000 new cases are diagnosed each year - that is, an incidence of 0.6 per 100,000. Life expectancy after diagnosis is seven to ten Years.
Due to the small number of patients with the disease, drugs to treat it may have the status of an orphan drug - meaning a drug that enjoys protection from competition for seven years in the US and ten years in the EU, to incentivize companies to develop drugs for small populations of patients.
