Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked announced a short time ago and surprisingly, a change of status for the first Druze community in Israel to become a city. This is the settlement of- , which is located near Karmiel at the seam between the Upper Galilee and the Lower Galilee. Maghar has about 24,000 residents and according to approved plans, the city's population is expected to grow to 30,000 in the coming years.
Shaked announced during a visit to Sajur, where she attended a meeting with the heads of the Druze and Circassian authorities about the expected upheaval in the city, and told the head of the Ma'ar local council, Adv. Fried Ganem, "I am happy and excited to announce the first Druze city in Israel."

The patterns of population density and livelihoods are similar to those of an urban locality that ceased to be based on agriculture. As stated in the recommendations of the Western Galilee Geographical Committee, the Ma'ar Local Authority has advanced and implemented a number of planning, economic, and organizational processes that have enabled it to meet the Interior Ministry's requirements to change its municipal status from local to city council.
The declaration of the Ma'ar Local Council as a city may affect the image of the locality and its attractiveness in everything related to local development in general and employment and trade development in particular.
"In my opinion, any authority that proves itself in development, streamlining organizational processes, economic growth and increasing self-income will receive assistance from us in growing and creating new capabilities. Ma'ar has proven itself and deserves to advance and be an important city in Israel. "And the Jewish people. This partnership is reflected not only in security but also in civilian life."
