The communications giant Cisco acquired the Robust Intelligence company founded by the Israeli professor of mathematics Yaron Singer. The amount of the purchase was not disclosed.
The announcement of the acquisition was published in a blog published by Tom Gillis, Cisco's senior vice president. Singer's company has developed a kind of firewall that protects artificial intelligence from mistakes. Today, the company employs a small number of workers in Israel and before its acquisition planned to expand the center significantly.
In June of this year, Cisco announced the establishment of its intention to invest one billion dollars in companies in the field of AI through a dedicated fund that it established. The purchase came as a result of the fund's activities.
Robust was only established in 2021 by Yaron Singer alongside Kojin Ushiba. Singer was one of the youngest professors of mathematics at Harvard University, and at the age of 40 already held tenure.
The company has raised 44 million dollars to date when Cisco was among the investors in the company. The value of the company in its last fundraising was estimated at more than 200 million dollars.
As mentioned, the company has developed a kind of firewall that protects the artificial intelligence from mistakes. Robust's solution was a little ahead of its time, because until the introduction of ChatGPT and others, who sometimes made embarrassing mistakes, not everyone was aware of how disastrous such mistakes could be, especially when it comes to non-amateur but business applications, such as the finance industry.
Since the hacking of the various tools in the field of AI, Singer's company has tripled its revenue. The company intended to carry out a significant recruitment round, but the acquisition by Cisco changed the picture.
"We are excited to announce a significant step in the security of the organization when we announce our intention to acquire Robust Intelligence," Gillis wrote. "It is a pioneering company at the forefront of AI security solutions and a valued company in Cisco's portfolio. Robust Intelligence's purpose-built platform offers robust protection for AI models throughout their lifecycle, from development to production. Through advanced automation and risk mitigation, Robust Intelligence empowers organizations to deploy Artificial intelligence applications are secured while complying with industry and regulatory standards."
Alon Weinberg, director of acquisitions and investments at Cisco Israel, said: "Cisco made a strategic investment in Boost Intelligence, with the aim of closely monitoring its development. Following the impressive progress, Cisco decided to acquire the company in order to strengthen its portfolio of solutions in the field of AI and expand its presence in the developing market of artificial intelligence security".
