IAI will will provide the IDF, through its Elta Brigade, with armored combat vehicles

Posted on Oct 10, 2021 by Ifi Reporter

The aerospace industry will provide the IDF, through its Elta Brigade, with armored combat vehicles (RPMs) with autonomous applications based on artificial intelligence. The Ministry of Defense selected its product in the "Carmel" tender for the development of systems for the maneuvering force on land, after being satisfied with the demonstration of its technology.
If these vehicles are now partially open so that soldiers can fully absorb and analyze the combat environment, then IAI vehicles are closed so that they provide higher protection, with the systems installed on the vehicles being the ones to locate the environment - instead of a pair of human eyes. Among the autonomous applications is also the driving itself in the field, which saves another role in the vehicle, and that is the driver.
The IAI says that this is one stage before full autonomy, since there are still two soldiers in the vehicle - they are also supposed to monitor what is happening, and also choose from the recommendations that the IAI system will give them - which will locate targets and present different attack scenarios.
"These capabilities allow the team to define, monitor and intervene only in places where it is required or deemed appropriate, thus influencing a larger space while effectively addressing the complex challenges facing the maneuvering force. "Quick acquisition and closing of effective fire circles, while minimizing the risk to human life in the ground battle, reducing incidental damage and more effective combat," the aerospace industry explains.
"The main technologies that IAI is developing for the maneuvering force on land include several systems," details IAI CEO Boaz Levy. Situational awareness system - which combines advanced capabilities in the fields of radar, signet and electro-optics, simultaneously detects the threats, on the ground, in the air and in the battle team's area of interest, classifies them in real time and knows how to distinguish between enemy forces quickly and accurately;
"The lethal system - is responsible for significantly improving the process of acquiring targets in real time, by allocating the most lethal means suitable for any purpose from all the means available to the combat team; the mobility system - is responsible for planning the best lines of progress in the field "Its mission. Operating system - Team members will be able to view the battlefield in several dimensions, thus better understanding the battle situation. An innovative user interface will allow fighters to make optimal decisions when required."
