Syria: Israel attacked near Damascus an air base - at least 6 soldiers were injured

Posted on Oct 8, 2021 by Ifi Reporter

The Syrian state news agency Sana reported on Friday evening that the air defense systems had been activated against "Israeli aggression" in the skies of the Homs district in the center of the country. According to a Syrian military source, the target of the attack was the T-4 military airport, and it was carried out at 21:33 using missiles fired from the direction of the a-Tanf area on the border of Iraq, Syria and Jordan. "Our air defense systems have been activated against the missiles and intercepted most of them," the source claimed. He then rarely admitted that "the attack resulted in the injury of six soldiers and damage to property."
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also reported the attack, even before the Syrian State Agency. The center claimed that loud explosions were heard in central Syria and estimated that these were Israeli attacks against several targets.
Most of the attacks attributed to Israel in Syria are carried out from Lebanon - and the country even protested this before the UN Security Council.
The base is located hundreds of kilometers from the Israeli border, between the cities of Homs and Tadmor. Apart from the air and ground forces of the Syrian regime, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards are also using it. Also at the base is a small air force of the Russian army. The location of T-4 plays an important role in the Middle East campaign, as it is located in the center of the Syrian section of the land and air corridor from Tehran, via Damascus, Lebanon and the Mediterranean ports of Syria. It is also known that in addition to storing drones and weapons, from this base the Revolutionary Guards oversee the crossings on the Iraq-Syria border under their control.
Earlier yesterday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that an unidentified aircraft had attacked military sites belonging to Iranian militias in the al-Bukhmal area on the Syrian-Iraqi border. A fire reportedly broke out at the scene. However, the report did not attribute the attack to a particular factor - and this is an area where the United States military has attacked many times in the past.
Last week, unidentified aircraft attacked a base operated by Iranian-backed Shiite militias on the Iraq-Syria border. According to the report, the base attacked is located in Deir a-Zour province in northeastern Syria, a district where Tehran has expanded its military presence in the past year. Military sources said the attacks were carried out south of the Sunni city of Myadin, which lies along the Euphrates River. The river and its environs, they noted, have become a major focus for Iran-backed Shiite militias, particularly in Iraq, since thwarting most of ISIS 'infrastructure in the country about four years ago. This attack was not reported in the Syrian state media, which never mentioned that Shiite militia fighters were inside the country.
On September 15, a mysterious airstrike was reported on the Syria-Iraq border. Arab media attributed it to the United States, claiming that it attacked pro-Iranian militias - but the Americans denied it, and a spokesman for the International Coalition Against ISIS said explicitly: "We did not attack from the air in al-Bukhamal." There were militias on the Syrian-Iraqi border, and two vehicles were seen on fire and reportedly destroyed.
