Sonol, a chain of gas stations, is entering the cannabis field: will establish a new pharmacy chain

Posted on Oct 6, 2021 by Ifi Reporter

Sonol, controlled by Dudi Weissman, which operates a chain of gas stations, is entering the cannabis field. For the first time in Israel, the chain will establish a new pharmacy chain in some of its refueling complexes for the sale of medical cannabis products with an investment of about NIS 30 million.
The first two branches will open at gas stations in Eilat and Modi'in in the first quarter of 2022, and will sell prescription medical cannabis products alongside complementary products. Each branch will have a pharmacist who will supply the cannabis by prescription.
Some of the branches will be urban and will be located next to the branches of the City Market supermarket chain, which was recently acquired by the company and operates mainly in Tel Aviv. The first branches will have an area of more than 150 square meters each. Sonol intends to open dozens of branches nationwide in the next three years.
Sonol's new chain will offer customers - along with medical cannabis products and complementary products - Pharm products sold in any pharmacy, and it will operate in accordance with the rules of regulation in the field. For this purpose, Sonol is one of the most prominent companies in Israel in the field of medical cannabis. The company will be the professional entity that will operate the pharmacies and serve the customers.
Sonol's entry into the field continues the move led by the company in 2015, when it offered its customers pharma products and over-the-counter drugs at the Sogood convenience store chain. In addition, the move is also made against the background of the growing demand for medical cannabis while at the same time, regulatory measures are being taken that allow more patients to consume it in a more accessible and simple way. The new medical cannabis reform was launched about two years ago, leading to a large increase in the number of patients, which now stands at more than 100,000 compared to 30,000 two years ago.
