With in 5 days since the start of the school year an increase of 20% in infected students

On August 31, on the eve of the start of the school year, there were 35.5 thousand students in Israel defined as active blue - on Sunday morning the number of students defined as blue already amounted to 42.5 thousand - an increase of 20% within five days. The increase in isolates was more significant - today there are 71.2 thousand students in isolation, compared to 55,000 isolated on the eve of the start of the school year - an increase of 30% within a few days.
In schools around the country, isolations of many strata and classrooms have been reported in recent days following the identification of verified students in schools.
The rate of verified students in recent days amounts to about 53% of all verified, and according to estimates given by the Ministry of Education before the start of the school year, if the rate of infection does not slow down, all unvaccinated students will be infected in Corona by the end of the school year.
The outline of the Ministry of Education for first- and fifth-grade students does not include any possibility of learning in small groups, and it stipulates that the schools will operate as usual - as before the Corona - without any safety measures other than masks. In the event that a verified student is found, the rest of the class and other students who have been exposed to it are transferred to solitary confinement for at least a week. The Ministry of Education is conducting a pilot in the ultra-Orthodox and Arab society for the "green class" model, in which students exposed to verified patients will be exempted from isolation and in return perform corona tests for a week in a row, but it is currently in individual schools and its effectiveness is unclear.
The family of Adv. Ahaz Agam, chairman of the National Kindergarten Committee led by the parents, is also in isolation at this stage, after being infected during the summer vacation. Agam's son waited until he was declared recovering to start the school year late - but then they learned that the entire class had been transferred to solitary confinement a few days after the school year began, due to exposure to a verified student. "The kids were expecting to start the school year. Ironically, after my son recovered the rest of his class moved to isolation and distance learning. Now he's learning - but in zoom," says Agam. "The whole class is in isolation except for the vaccinated and the recovering, but the class has moved to distance learning because there are few of those, and we are waiting for the resumption of classes on Thursday."
