The Ministry of Education estimates that with the start of the school year on September 1, 5,000-4,000 students will be infected with Corona every day, if the rate of infection remains as it is now.
Meaning: Every day tens of thousands of students will be sent to solitary confinement. At this stage there is no change in the isolation policy, and in any case where a verified student is located, his entire class will be sent for isolation, as well as other students who have come in contact with him. Today there are about 50,000 school-age children who are in isolation after being exposed to a verified patient.
According to estimates by senior officials in the Ministry of Education, according to the current infection rate, by the beginning of the school year, about 10,000 infections will be discovered in Israel every day. Since 40% -50% of the verified are of school age, 5,000-4,000 infected will also be students.
According to the outline of the Ministry of Education, the studies will take place in the regular classrooms with up to 40 students per class, instead of in capsules.
In 2020, the school year opened on September 1 when about 2,500 new patients were discovered each day. The school year did not open in the red localities, and in other places it opened under certain restrictions, such as studies in capsules in some strata.
The outline of the Ministry of Education relies on serological tests to be conducted this month, as well as on home tests that parents will perform before the start of the year, with state funding. The Ministry of Education hopes that the tests will make it possible to locate verified students before the start of the school year, thus saving days of isolation for other students.
According to the outline, in orange and red localities, tests will be conducted more frequently - once or twice a week. In a school in orange and red localities, it will be possible to split the classrooms into capsules in the fifth-twelfth grades only, and only if less than half of the class has been vaccinated against corona. They will be able to take additional measures such as moving to distance learning in part, and studying in open spaces.
According to data from the Ministry of Education, about 70% of students in grades 10-12 are vaccinated, and 50% of students in grades 9-10. The ministry hopes that the high number of vaccinated among high school students will curb the contagion and entry into isolation in these strata.
