Director of the Ministry of Health, Prof. Nachman Ash: The Corona situation in Israel is under control

Posted on Jul 12, 2021 by Ifi Reporter

The incoming director general of the Ministry of Health, Prof. Nachman Ash, said Monday that he could not firmly state that the disease situation in Israel is under control, but at present there is no recommendation to tighten restrictions. Also, the condition of nine patients has worsened and is now defined as severe.
"As long as the trend is on the rise I can not say it is under control. We would like more people to come vaccinated, we brought more doses, the vaccine is really the solution to this situation. But much more vaccinated are needed because of the Delta variant," Ash said in an interview ahead of the Corona Cabinet.
However, according to Ash, there is still no clear intention to tighten restrictions. Regarding the capsules, he noted that "it is not recommended at the moment, depending on the level of morbidity at the time." He added that "the cabinet's decision was to keep track of the number of critically ill patients and that number is low so as to stand out regarding restrictions, we are looking for things that will not limit activity but will be safer."
Ash was asked about the public's trust in health officials following the statements that on Saturday the vaccines would run out. "It was completely true, and referring to the 200,000 packets we received and obtained from Pfizer, it was not obvious and it was not agreed before. "Once we were successful we had to announce it but there was no exercise to encourage immunization."
Ash rejected claims that Israel is afraid to use modern company vaccines due to commercial agreements with Pfizer and said that "we will use all the vaccines we have, it is important for us to use the vaccines we have and we will do it when it is found to be right to use them." Of different companies, because they need to be given in a different way, but maybe we have reached a time when they need to be used as well. "
