A global cyber attack conducted from more than 1,300 different locations was exposed by the team of Israeli researchers to the target of Murdkovich and Ofir Harpaz from the Guardicor company.
The main target of the attack was the servers of companies and organizations in the fields of health, tourism, communications and education including hospitals, hotels, educational institutions and government agencies, most of them in the US, Vietnam and India. And created a large decentralization of attack sites to make it difficult to locate them.
The servers that fell victim to the attack use Microsoft's SMB protocol. The attackers created in companies that were attacked a "back door" that allowed them to infiltrate again and again and an option to sell the access in the dark web. It is estimated that hundreds of dollars can be obtained on any infected "windows" server, which add up to extremely high amounts.
The attackers who will process the systems for digital coin mining, Trojan horses and information gathering. They activated advanced means of eliminating the damage of other attack groups located on the servers to seize sole control over them and delete their files after use in order not to leave a trace.
Guardicor researchers have provided security managers around the world with a tool to help identify if the corporate system has been compromised and recommendations on how to act to protect against similar-style attacks.
The cyber company Guardicore develops software for comprehensive protection of enterprise systems and end units in the cloud and internal servers through segmentation, their division into sections and protection of each of them to companies in the fields of finance, services, health, e-commerce, education and more. The company employs over 270 people, more than half of them in the development center in Israel, as well as in sales and support offices in the United States, Canada, South America, India, Western Europe and Ukraine.
