IAI will upgrade Israeli produced Kfir planes for the Sri Lankan Air Force for $ 50 million

Posted on Jun 30, 2021 by Ifi Reporter

IAI will upgrade Kfir planes for the Sri Lankan Air Force for $ 50 million. The deal - which includes the return to fitness, refurbishment and improvement of Kfir aircraft for the Sri Lankan Air Force - was recently signed.
The aircraft upgrade will upgrade the aircraft's basic avionics package to the most advanced level of 4+ generation fighter aircraft currently flying in the world. The improvement process will include, among other things, the transfer of knowledge to perform aircraft improvements to Air Force personnel in Sri Lanka, regulations that will allow future integration of radars, sensors, advanced communications and new helmets.
Kfir planes served in the Sri Lankan Air Force as early as the 1990s, including during the long-running internal fighting against the country’s rebels. The aerospace industry estimates that the Kfir aircraft, in its original configuration, led to a breach of equality on the battlefield, by enabling the use of heavy weapons weighing thousands of tons, and through which precise damage to the enemy's quality objectives was achieved.
According to IAI, the choice to now upgrade the Kfir aircraft came, among other things, following its successful performance in the Colombian Air Force. In 2012 and 2018, the Columbia Kfir Squadron participated in U.S. RED FLAG exercises, alongside the U.S. Air Force and other air forces, and presented outstanding results.
IAI's Aviation Division deals with aircraft improvements, in the military and civilian worlds. The division consolidates under it all the activity of manned aircraft, military and civilian, in the aerospace industry; Conversion of passenger aircraft to cargo, maintenance (MRO), executive aircraft, complexes and aviation structures, and aircraft improvements. The division's customers include air forces, airlines and security companies such as Lockheed Martin, Boeing Israeli Air Force and Colombian Air Force.
