Teva has reached an agreement with the state of Mississippi to close a lawsuit filed against it in 2019. As part of the lawsuit, it was alleged that Teva cooperated with other manufacturers of generic drugs in a conspiracy in order to divide the market between them, and to raise the prices of drugs in a coordinated manner.
Under the terms of the settlement between Teva and Lynn Finch, Mississippi's attorney general, Teva will pay a relatively small sum of $ 925,000, without pleading guilty. Mississippi thus becomes the first state to abandon the lawsuit filed by 50 states against Teva, over price coordination and market sharing while violating antitrust law.
A Teva spokeswoman said the company is in talks for similar arrangements with other states, noting that the modest amount it will pay Mississippi reflects the company's assessment of a lack of evidence to claim in the lawsuit.
Teva was sued in 2020 by federal prosecutors for allegedly coordinating prices and dividing customers with generic drug makers, between May 2013 and December 2015, causing it to collect an excess of $ 350 million from customers. Teva denied the allegation in the statement of claim.
