Bluebird, owned by IAI completed the delivery of 100 UAV's to a European Army

Posted on Jun 15, 2021 by Ifi Reporter

Bluebird, owned by IAI (50%), has completed the delivery of 100 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of the WanderB-VTOL type to a European Army. Fixed wing drones delivered to any customer.
UAVs that take off and land vertically have a significant advantage in naval military activity or in gas and oil rigs. Winged aircraft have an advantage over helicopters in terms of length of stay, flight range and speed, and the combination of vertical takeoff and the benefits of fixed-wing aircraft - eliminates the need In the runway of sight and use of cables that are cumbersome and interfere with the ship's activity.
VTOL UAVs have an advantage for land forces, who want to operate UAVs that do not require a take-off and landing trajectory, but provide the intelligence services provided by regular UAVs and the longer flight and residence time compared to helicopters. These advantages are also relevant compared to gliders, and VTOL drones can also be used for civilian delivery services.
IAI noted that the U.S. military has announced that the next land UAV to come into use will have a vertical takeoff and landing capability, that UAVs that IAI has so far provided to the U.S. military, and therefore the company made the decision to enter this field by acquiring a holding company in Bluebird and through development myself. So in the company's estimation, its product portfolio in this area will be competitive. The holding in Bluebird was acquired by IAI in September 2020 at an estimated value of NIS 100 million.
The aerospace industry acquired its holdings from the Indian company Piramal and Fiberless Access, and the company's CEO Ronen Nadir currently owns and manages 50% of Bluebird's shares. In both land and sea worlds.
