Interior Minister Aryeh Deri informed Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai and Bat Yam Mayor Zvika Brut that he had decided to cancel his 2017 decision to merge the two authorities into one municipal authority. This is against the background of an improvement in the budgetary situation of Bat Yam.
"In June 2017, I decided to adopt the recommendation of the Boundaries Committee for the unification of the city of Bat Yam with the city of Tel Aviv-Yafo, in 2023," Deri noted in the letter. The Bat Yam Municipality is implementing the recovery plan signed and meets the deficit targets defined therein. At the end of December 2020, the Municipality signed the second part of the recovery plan, according to which a reduced outline was set for reducing the current deficit for 2023-2020 In order to stabilize the budgetary position of the weakness of its self-sufficient resources that are not sufficient for their economic needs. - Bat Yam".
The Bat Yam Municipality welcomed the announcement of the cancellation of the union and emphasized that the deficit was reduced from NIS 100 million at the beginning of 2018, to only NIS 19 million in 2021. This is when the deficit is expected to be zero next year. "This is a holiday for Bat Yam," said Mayor Zvika Brut. "I am happy and proud of the economic revolution we have made and the trust on the part of the state. All along I have said that with professional management transparency and hand hygiene, Bat Yam can bring economic balance and dramatic improvement of service to the resident. We worked very hard for this achievement. For many achievements in the coming years as well. "
