Four people, including former Health Minister Yaakov Litzman's aide, Moti Babchik, were arrested on suspicion of bribery, fraud and breach of trust. Other detainees in the corruption case, which is being investigated at Lahav 433, are the ultra-Orthodox publicist Menachem Gasheid, the lobbyist Erez Gilhar and the CEO of the Roche pharmaceutical company, Avi Danziger. , And the arrest of Gashide in a day.
One of the suspicions being investigated by the National Fraud Investigation Unit is that Tnuva executives allegedly bribed Babchik to remove red markings (indicating high levels of sugar, saturated fat or sodium) from some Tnuva products, in order to increase their sales. In addition, there is a suspicion that Tnuva transferred large sums of money to non-profit organizations affiliated with Babchik, in order to promote the removal of product markings.
Babchik denied in his interrogation what was attributed to him, and told investigators that all his actions were done lawfully. Babchik's police and attorney, Amit Haddad, agreed to extend his detention until Tuesday at 8:00 PM, after which Babchik will be released under house arrest.
Litzman was asked about the suspicions against his assistant during a tribute event to the medical staff and heads of the health system, and said he did not know the suspicions against Babchik. "I have no idea what this is about. Bechik is my assistant, he is a loyal and honest person. I have nothing to add beyond that," he said.
The police initially stated that the investigation raised the suspicion that one of the detainees had promoted the interests of large commercial companies in the economy in exchange for bribes, on several occasions, "while exploiting his status and in complete conflict with the public interest."
Tnuva stated: "Tnuva has acted and is acting in accordance with the law and corporate governance. The company and its managers are cooperating and will cooperate with the investigation, as required."
Roche Israel stated: "Roche Israel confirms that police investigators arrived at its offices this morning. The company cooperates fully with law enforcement agencies and acts in full transparency and in accordance with the provisions of the law."
