The Likud party was recently ordered to return loans at the amount of NIS 15.6 million to the Ministry of the Interior

The Likud party was recently ordered to return NIS 15.6 million to the Ministry of the Interior. This is due to excess advances given to the party in the local elections held in 2018, and to the payment of a fine imposed on it by the State Comptroller. The total debt of the Likud reaches NIS 80 million.
The Likud, like the other parties in the Knesset, received funding from the Ministry of the Interior before the municipal elections in October 2018. Following the publication of the election results and the determination of funding amounts to the parties, they are sometimes forced to repay some Entitlement to it.

In February 2021, State Comptroller Netanyahu Engelman imposed a fine of NIS 200,000 on the Likud, of which NIS 100,000 on the lack of references establishing the adequacy of the consideration paid by the faction for polls in the 2018 municipal elections. A similar amount was imposed due to the "Likud Diad" in Eilat near the Knesset elections, contrary to the directives of the State Comptroller.
The Ministry of the Interior recently asked the Speaker of the Knesset to order the Knesset accountants to transfer the debt money from the monthly party funding paid by the Knesset to the party. The ministry referred to the debts of six other parties to the Likud in the total amount of NIS 35.85 million. From NIS 6.7 million, Ta'al - NIS 1.5 million, Balad - NIS 1.25 million, Tikuma - NIS 0.9 million, and Labor - NIS 0.8 million. With the exception of the Likud, RAAM and Balad - the other parties reached an agreement with the Knesset To return a debt to the Ministry of the Interior.
The Likud has reached the ceiling of loans allowed by the Knesset - NIS 64 million, and therefore the party cannot take another loan for the purpose of repaying the debt to the Ministry of the Interior. The public committee for determining party funding, headed by retired Supreme Court Justice Ayala Procaccia, and with the participation of former CPA and MK Ehud Ratzabi and Prof. Assaf Midani, held a hearing on the request for the parties' debts to be spread. The committee is expected in the coming days to recommend to the Speaker of the Knesset that the debt be spread.
