Michal Halperin is in charge of the Competition Authority will retire on August 1st

Michal Halperin, who is in charge of the Competition Authority, announced today (Sunday) that she will retire on August 1, six months before the end of her six-year term, which she has held since the beginning of 2016.
Halperin was recently harshly criticized in a harsh report by the State Comptroller on the cost of living in food.
Many arrows in the State Comptroller's report
However, the auditor's report states: "The Competition Authority must use the tools provided to it by the legislature to remove barriers to competition in the food industry and to lower the cost of living, as we have done to the Competition Authority. One of the examples presented in the report relates to the treatment of large exclusive importers, such as Diplomat and Stowitz, whose applications as monopolies were rejected outright. Related to a restrictive arrangement and other actions to promote competition.
It should be noted that in a transitional government it is not possible to establish a search committee without the approval of the Attorney General. When asked by TheMarker, the minister replied that he would turn to the ombudsman, and if he approved, the committee would be established
In previous cases, for example after Minister Dudi Amsalem's attempt to set up a search committee to appoint the director of the Companies Authority, the ombudsman ruled that a search committee would not be set up for such a senior position and the minister would appoint a deputy state employee.
As stated, the establishment of the search committee for the position that Halperin will vacate depends on the directive of the ombudsman, and not on the will of the Minister of Economy.
