Agreed: Gas supply system from Israel to the power plant in Gaza

Posted on Feb 14, 2021 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski

Qatar, the United Nations and the European Union managed to bring an agreement today (Sunday) on the installation of a gas supply system from Israel to the power plant in Gaza. The agreement is expected to significantly improve the dilapidated electricity economy in the Gaza Strip.
Negotiations on the matter have been going on for several years. The procedure needs the approval of the political echelon in Israel, but the fact that the Qatari envoy for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, Muhammad al-Amadi, has issued an official statement - implies that it will be accepted.
Al-Amadi said that there were in fact two agreements: the first was between Delek and the Palestinian Authority, according to which it would sell the gas that would be transferred to the power plant to the authority.
The second agreement includes the laying of the gas pipeline from Israel to the power plant in Gaza City. The European Union has allocated five million dollars for the laying of gas pipelines from the Gaza Strip border to the power plant, while Qatar will finance the laying of the gas pipeline in Israeli territory.
