IAI will supply a state in Asia for two Heron MK 2 UAV systems for tens of millions of dollars

Posted on Jan 25, 2021 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski

IAI recently signed a deal with a state in Asia for two deals related to two Heron MK 2 UAV systems for tens of millions of dollars per system. As part of the deals, one system will be sold to the Asian country and a second system will be leased. The systems include Heron MK 2 UAVs, Ground and sensor mounted on the UAV for intelligence gathering.
The Heron MK 2 UAV is the most advanced model of the Heron UAV family. It reaches an altitude of 35,000 feet, a maximum speed of 140 knots and can stay in the air for up to 45 hours of flight.
The Heron MK 2 has a wide body structure and a larger internal volume thanks to improved manufacturing technologies. These features allow it to carry a variety of configurations that improve operational flexibility and UAV maintenance capability - without changing its own weight. The UAV carries a long-range observation sensor and radar.
The UAV's outstanding ability is to perform intelligence gathering missions on targets from tens of kilometers away, without the need to cross a border line - thanks to its ability to carry large and improved IAI sensors at higher altitudes. The UAV has improved avionics, and an upgraded engine with high reliability .
Moshe Levy, IAI's vice president and director of the military aircraft division, noted that the drones that will be delivered to the Asian country will fulfill various tasks, including border control. According to him, Heron MK 2 UAVs are suitable for landing at any airport and are capable of flying even in extreme weather conditions. Levy estimated that the current deal will advance additional deals for Heron MK 2 systems.
