more than 50,000 fines were distributed since the closure began 12 days ago

Posted on Jan 14, 2021 by Ifi Reporter

From the entry into force of the third closure, 12 days ago, more than 50,000 fines were distributed in the total amount of NIS 42 million for violating regulations - according to data published today (Monday) by the Enforcement and Collection Authority. Also from the beginning of 2021 there has been an increase in the payment of fines.
The data also show that since the outbreak of the crisis, more than half a million fines in the amount of more than NIS 300 million have been imposed due to various violations of the guidelines for the struggle in Corona. So far, since the beginning of 2021, 12,000 fines have been paid in the total amount of NIS 7 million, compared with the period before the last closure, when an average of NIS 2.5 million a week was paid for about 5,000 fines.
The director of the Center for the Collection of Fines at the Enforcement and Collection Authority, Doron Infrastructure, stated that the center was prepared to send reminders to all debtors who have not yet paid the fine, before the fine accumulates additional arrears of 50% after the due date. Infrastructure added that the center "is doing everything we can to reach the debtors and remind them to pay the fines on time. It bothers me that in addition to the fine they will also have to pay additional arrears."
He said, "So far, 137,211 people have already paid these fines and a total of NIS 68,603,685 has been collected. However, unfortunately about 133,000 citizens have not paid and the arrears have been added to the debt. Many of them are asking us to help reduce arrears, and we are preparing to address these ". He said that "applicants who are in a difficult financial situation can apply and ask for a reduction in arrears and deployment, and we will examine their request."
