Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit to P.M Netanyahu: Budget approval must be passed quickly
Posted on Nov 29, 2020 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski
Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit addressed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Bnei Gantz and Finance Minister Israel Katz regarding the dates of the 2020 and 2021 state budgets on the Knesset table. Mandelblit clarified that the government's budget approval must be passed quickly. This is because the government does not comply with the provisions of the law for presenting the budget in the Knesset.
Mandelblit clarified that the dates of the state budget discount on the Knesset table have passed, both with regard to the 2020 budget and the 2021. Budget law. "This is all the more true as long as there is an intention to place alongside the budget bill proposals for structural changes and fiscal legislation, which require an additional stay in the Knesset," Mandelblit wrote.
The attorney general mentioned the positions expressed by Supreme Court President Esther Hayut and members of the High Court panel at last week's hearing regarding the non-approval of the budget. Hayut said that "the state is here in violation of the law."
"Against this background, I would like to clarify that there is room to act at the required speed, each within its own powers and functions, to advance the 2020 budget bill and the 2021 budget bill, and bring them up for discussion in the government," Mandelblit wrote.
