in coping with the Corona pandemic: Israel is graded in 21st place

Posted on Nov 25, 2020 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski

The spread of the corona plague around the world has challenged accepted perceptions about which countries are best able to cope with a severe health crisis. Developed countries like the US and UK, which were ranked before 2020 as the countries most prepared for the plague, are repeatedly faced with a jump in the number of infected and are returning to imposing restrictions that cost a lot.
At the same time, other countries - including developing countries - have exceeded expectations and have largely succeeded in defeating the virus within their borders. Since many relevant metrics and databases cover only a small number of countries, Bloomberg's new ranking focuses on indicators that can be obtained in the vast majority of the 53 economies it has examined.
Among the indicators included in the ranking: number of new cases and number of deaths per month; The rate of positive tests; Access to vaccines; Ability to move; Severity of quarantine; The Human Development Index; Public health insurance; And growth forecast.
Out of the 53 economies that participated in the ranking, Israel came in 21st place with a score of 65 points - a high place from Austria and Switzerland, where the rate of positive cases is currently approaching 25%; And higher than Turkey and Saudi Arabia who have no agreements with drug companies regarding virus vaccines.
New Zealand came first in the table, with a score higher than 85 points and a positive test rate of 0%. It is followed by Japan with an almost zero mortality rate and agreements with four companies regarding vaccines. Also in the opening ten: Taiwan, South Korea, Finland, Norway, Australia, China and Denmark.
At the bottom of the table are Belgium in 50th place, with a very high death toll per million people - 1,348; Followed by Peru, Argentina and Mexico in 53rd place.
