An Israeli Quadcopter is authorised to monitor the spread of huge fires in the US

Posted on Nov 12, 2020 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski

A breakthrough in the use of long-range quadcopters was recorded in the United States after the Federal Aviation Administration granted, for the first time in its history, a permit to operate a non-contact remote quadcopter to monitor the spread of huge fires and possible damage to cellular infrastructure essential to rescue forces.
The quadcopter of the Israeli Percepto, was operated by Skyward, a subsidiary of the communications giant Verizon, as part of dealing with the spread of fires in the state of Washington and in order to warn of approaching infrastructure facilities, communications or residential areas. At all times the quadcopter was supervised by an operator sitting at his home in Alaska, at an air distance of 2500 km.
The Israeli quadcopter was flown into areas that were in the heart of the fire area, in areas where access to humans was dangerous due to the fire, taking advantage of its resistance to heavy heat and wind conditions. He provided real-time photos and videos that allowed rescue workers to see the situation and predict the continued spread of the fire. They remotely navigated the quadcopter and guided it where and at what altitude to fly. Percepto's quadcopter is equipped with the ability to photograph even in poor visibility and dark conditions. The operating system is based on artificial intelligence and knows how to analyze the images and identify different types of activity such as people in the arena, or high temperatures.
Ariel Avitan, VP of Percepto, said that the approval of the American authorities is an expression of trust in Israeli technology and the ability to operate it safely from a long distance, since they are known for their meticulousness. Of disasters, weather damage or security incidents.
Percepto was founded by Dor Abuhatzira, Sagi Blonder, Raviv Raz and Ariel Avitan and operates from a development center in Modiin and offices in the US and Australia. It employs 75 people and is in the process of recruiting additional employees.
