Shufersal is acquiring 75% of Amiga Food Marketing for NIS 23.5 million

Shufersal is expanding in the institutional food market. The company signed the agreement to acquire Amiga Food Marketing, a leading food wholesale company with an annual sales turnover of more than NIS 100 million. Shufersal acquires 75% of the shares for NIS 23.5 million and will establish a subsidiary called Dupersal Amiga in which Gili Amiga will hold 25% of the shares.
Negotiations have been going on for nearly a year and a half and have been halted due to the corona crisis, when it recently resumed.
Itzik Aberhahn, CEO of Shufersal, said: "We are pleased to expand Shufersal Business' operations through the acquisition of the operations of Amiga Canned and the establishment of the new operations together with the company's CEO, who brings with him extensive experience in the field. Shufersal's capabilities while using all the assets and infrastructure at its disposal, together with the experience and reputation of Amiga Preservation Company in the institutional market. Under the agreement, Shufersal will establish a joint subsidiary of Shufersal and Gili Amiga, under the name "Shufersal Amiga", which will serve as a basis for national activity in this market. In the joint company, Mr. Gili Amiga will serve as CEO and will also be a partner in ownership. Completion of the transaction is conditional on the fulfillment of a number of conditions precedent and the approval of the competition commissioner.
Amiga, founded in 1950 by Shaul Amiga and managed by his son Gil, markets according to Dun & Bradstreet about 60% of the food to the institutional market in the Greater Gush Dan area. It operates in Tzrifin from a new logistics center it owns in an area of ​​4,000 square meters, from which food products are distributed to about 3,000 customers - large catering companies, restaurants, hotels, event gardens and government offices.
The company grew out of a deli in the Hatikva neighborhood that still operates. It markets food products from all manufacturers in the country - from Barn to Unilever - oils, legumes, sauces and frozen vegetables, along with complementary products such as disposable utensils and detergents.
Amiga also imports products for Italian, Asian and Oriental cuisine, such as pastas and tomato sauces, specialty oils and sushi products. Its home page states that it takes care of the environment and markets it in vacuum packaging and not in cans.
About three years ago, Shufersal launched the "Cash & carry" format, the supermarket for business owners, designed for businesses such as containers, kiosks, cafeterias, buffets, restaurants and fast food. In this way, Shufersal enables the concentration of the purchase of most suppliers' products in one point and with one invoice, which saves the handling of dozens of invoices from different suppliers each month.
This year, the second store in this format was opened in Haifa in addition to the store in Beer Yaakov, and the company intends to continue developing this format in the future as well.
Several years ago, sales and distribution platforms were built that serve hundreds of retail outlets (containers and consumers) nationwide that are located in the rural area in kibbutzim, moshavim and also in the urban area.
