passengers whose flight will be canceled from today until the end of next month their money will be refunded

Posted on Oct 25, 2020 by Ifi Reporter

ovetoday approved the extension of the Tibi Law Amendment - until November 30. The extension regulates the rights of passengers whose flight will be canceled from today until the end of next month, and ensures that their money will be refunded within 90 days by the airline. The decision was made due to continued changes in the state of the aviation economy, due to the second wave of the hitting corona in the world.
During the said period, the passenger will not be entitled, as in the past, before the application of the Tibi Law, to compensation from the airline for the cancellation. Also, the right to stay for a passenger in case his flight back to Israel or another destination was canceled, was limited to 2 nights only (originally there was no limit to the number of nights the airline is required to pay for the passenger).
The discussion also revealed that according to the airlines 'reports to the Economics Committee, Arkia has so far returned 100% of the passengers' money; Israir returned 90%; El Al returned 70% of the funds. It should be noted that the extension is irrelevant and does not apply to cancellations of flights that have already taken place (starting in March), for which it was determined that the passenger's money will be refunded by October 1: His money until October 1, can sue the company for violating the law and receive compensation of up to 10 shekels.
At the same time, the chairman of the Economics Committee, Yaakov Margi, is proposing an amendment to the law that will shorten the time to return the money to the customer from 90 days to only 30 days. At the hearing, Ilana Mizrahi from the Consumer Protection Authority said: "We request that the committee continue to monitor the customer." The airport - such as limiting accommodation and canceling compensation fees - will only be given to those companies that returned all the customers' money. "Committee chairman Margie replied that the issue would be considered. The discussion was flooded with the problem that no body has the powers to enforce Tibi law, and there are no sanctions on those who did not return the passengers' money on time.
