Another financial assistance: grants for the unemployed and the self-employed

Posted on Oct 7, 2020 by Ifi Reporter

Another financial assistance program: The outline of the new economic plan for the second closure will include grants for the unemployed and advance payment of grants to the self-employed who are financially groaning under the second closure. This was announced tonight (Wednesday), after a discussion of hours that took place to formulate the plan at the top of the Ministry of Finance. The cost of the new program: about a billion shekels.
The Minister of Finance decided tonight that the payments to the self-employed will be increased and they will be brought forward to the beginning of November. As for the unemployed, a criterion will be set for receiving the grants up to the average wage threshold of the unemployed - NIS 8,000, for those who were unemployed for at least 100 days during this period until September-October. The second grant will be increased and will be used as an incentive to return to work, and will be received in four payments in addition to the salary, as part of the employment project.
"We gave a grant to negative income tax recipients and now we must strengthen the unemployed who receive low wages and do not currently have an employment alternative. If the economy opens up - eligibility will shift with the employee to the workplace. Payments to the self-employed must also be made.
Ynet has learned that some senior finance officials oppose the granting of additional large grants to the unemployed, and claim that they should be encouraged with a special grant to look for and find work. For this reason, the program will not be costly to the budget, due to the huge deficit that exists in it today.
It should also be noted that additional sections of the plan may be added later and in any case it must obtain the approval of the government and pass legislation in the Knesset.
