The state filed a request from the court for restraining order against the teachers union eliminating their threat not to open the school year

Posted on Aug 28, 2020 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski

The state on Friday filed an urgent request for restraining orders against the teachers 'union, with the aim of eliminating the labor dispute declared by the teachers' union, and forcing all kindergarten and middle school teachers - including those in medical risk groups - to open the school year. The hearing on the state's request, which was submitted to the Tel Aviv Labor Court, will take place this coming Sunday morning.
Last Wednesday, negotiations took place between the Teachers' Union and representatives of the Ministries of Education and Finance - which exploded. In the negotiations, the state offered to take some of the teachers at risk for unpaid leave.
The teachers' union has announced a labor dispute, which will allow it to suspend classes on September 1 - this coming Tuesday - on the issue of the work of teachers who are in risk groups. This is in light of the fact that since the outbreak of the corona in March, the Ministries of Education and Finance have not found a solution that would regulate the work or retirement of at-risk teachers.
If there is no solution, all teachers and kindergarten teachers are obliged to attend school, even in kindergarten and grades 1-2 - where there is no division into capsules and the studies take place in classes of up to 35 students, without keeping distance and without masks.
The teachers unionized in the Teachers' Union have been working without a wage agreement since July 2019, and will begin a second consecutive school year without an agreement, which has not been signed so far.
