The consumer confidence index fell to minus 30% in July - similar to its lowest value, measured in April 2020 during the closure period and stood at 31% -. The index values range from minus 100 to plus 100, with the closer the index value is to the upper limit, the more optimistic it is, and the closer it is to the lower limit, the more pessimistic it is.
In May, the value of the index improved and it rose to 14%, but in the last two months there has been another aggravation that reflects the public's pessimism about the economic situation of the household and the state.
The index consists of four parts: first, consumers' intentions to make large purchases in the coming year compared to the last year - in this index the largest change occurred and it dropped to 42% -, after standing at 28% in June; The second part refers to the expected change in the economic situation in the country in the coming year, according to consumer estimates, and it stands at 43%, after falling to 34% in June. During the closure period in April, the index stood at 54%.
The third part refers to the expected change in the economic situation of the household in the coming year, and it stands at 13% in July (June 6%). In May, in fact, this share rose to a positive value of 5% and showed cautious optimism; The last part refers to the change that has taken place in the economic situation of the household in the past year, and stands at 22% in July (June 23%).
The CBS divides consumer confidence according to various parameters. Thus, both among the employed and among the non-employed, a decrease in the value of the index was observed. The value of the index fell from 23% in June to 33% in July (18% in May; 30% in April).
Another segmentation is made according to the level of education, and thus among those without a matriculation certificate, the index fell from 17% in June to 33% in July, and among academics the index fell from 20% in June to 26% in July.
