IBM: a record year in new patents - hundreds developed in Israel

Last year was again a record year for IBM, the year it registered more patents than any other company in the world. The company recorded 9043 patents in 2017 and focuses on particularly hot areas such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing and cyber security. This is the twenty-fifth year that IBM maintains a patent record. In the past 25 years, the company has registered more than 105,000 patents.
 The Haifa Scientific Center is a full partner in the creation of patents, and in the past year the company's researchers in Israel are responsible for hundreds of patents. About 8,500 IBM researchers and engineers in 47 countries around the world have faced a wide range of challenges this year, including artificial intelligence-based natural language processing, autonomous driving management systems, and the use of Blochien technologies to streamline business processes.

In the area of ​​autonomous driving, for example, a machine-learning system that can transfer the control of the autonomous vehicle from the car to the driver is patented. Blockkin Technologies has patented a technology that enables streamlining and lowering the operating costs of the Blockkin environment by unifying transactions reported by various players in the system.
Research and development in Israel focuses on the fields of artificial intelligence, health, the Internet of things, storage, cloud, and cyber security. The Haifa lab is IBM's largest lab outside the US.
The company's vice president, Oded Eran, who is also the CEO of IBM Research Lab in Haifa, said that the development of the next generation of advanced technologies will enable the company's customers to continue to create a smarter and more efficient business world
