Israeli Average Salaried Worker Salary Drops in April 2024 to NIS 13,506

The average salary for salaried positions in Israel declined in April 2024 to NIS 13,506, down from just over NIS 14,000 recorded in March, according to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). This marks a 7.3% increase compared to April last year but reflects a notable decrease from the previous month.

In the high-tech industry, which had seen consistent salary increases and set new records in recent months, April saw a reversal. The average salary in April was NIS 31,976, showing an 8% increase from last year but a decrease from March's record-high average of NIS 35,870. The number of salaried jobs in high-tech also saw a slight decline of 0.2% compared to March 2024.

Detailed Breakdown

Workers in programming and consulting roles within the computer field experienced a significant drop in average salary, earning NIS 32,737 compared to NIS 38,308 in March. This sector constitutes over 50% of the workforce in high-tech. Meanwhile, workers in scientific research and development earned an average of NIS 34,380, and those in computer and electronic manufacturing averaged NIS 33,309.

Employment Statistics

The number of salaried jobs across all sectors in Israel totaled 3.965 million in April, marking a decrease of 0.2% from March and 0.8% from April 2023.

Industry Variances

  • Top Earning Industries: The information and communication industry led with an average gross salary of NIS 30,576, followed by financial services and insurance at NIS 29,274, and the electricity and water industry with NIS 21,859.

  • Lowest Earning Industries: Employees in hospitality and food services had the lowest average salary at NIS 6,289 per month, followed by various services at NIS 6,474, and entertainment and leisure arts (excluding artists) at NIS 7,356.

Economic Outlook

While certain sectors like high-tech continue to show resilience with moderate salary increases year-over-year, the overall trend in April reflects a challenging economic environment with declining average salaries and employment figures.

This data underscores ongoing economic shifts and challenges facing the Israeli labor market as it navigates through varying sectoral dynamics and economic pressures.
