Government Approves Revised Budget for 2024 Prioritizing Security and Civilian Needs in War

Posted on Jan 15, 2024 by Ifi Reporter

The government approved the revised budget proposal for 2024 brought by Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich. The proposal includes amending the budget and adding tens of billions to the security and civilian needs of the war.
The budget proposal includes a supplemental envelope for reservists, fighters and their families in the amount of NIS 9 billion for the "reserve recruits" program.

In addition, billions of shekels to strengthen the civil front with measures such as continuing treatment of evacuees, increasing the property tax fund by 3 billion shekels, boosting the budget of local authorities receiving evacuees, acceleration programs for real estate and hi-tech, and more.
Minister of Finance Bezalel Smotrich during the approval of the budget in the government: "I have only one thing to say today, the order of priorities is changing - we are here at the government table in Jerusalem, and our soldiers are in the north, south and Yosh in ceaseless fighting"
"We changed the priorities so that every reservist and every fighter and his family know that there is a government that stands behind him and takes care of him completely. We will not let up in our concern for them because it is our duty and they are the engine of this nation. Today we change the order of priorities and wrap our reservists and fighters!"
I would like to thank the Prime Minister and the ministers for mobilizing and supporting a responsible war budget for the reservists and citizens of Israel. I thank the professionals at the Ministry of Finance for their hard work and the Governor of the Bank of Israel Prof. Amir Yaron for his support and assistance. This is a budget that will strengthen the State of Israel with security on the front and in the rear and will maintain the strength of the Israeli economy."
In response to today's approval of the state budget for 2024, Sagi Belsha, CEO of Ogan, Israel's social credit body, says: "The economic disparities and the cost of living are an enemy no less dangerous than Hamas and Hezbollah to the State of Israel. The horizontal tax increases approved by the government, including the increase in VAT next year, will add a heavy economic burden to the general public, and especially to the disadvantaged populations in Israel, who are already kneeling under the burden of the cost of living."
