Hadassah's board of directors summoned the hospital's director, Prof. Zeev Rothstein, for a pre-dismissal hearing

Posted on Jul 5, 2021 by Ifi Reporter

Hadassah's board of directors summoned the hospital's director, Prof. Zeev Rothstein, for a pre - dismissal hearing this coming Sunday. The board did not elaborate on why, but hospital officials accused Rothstein of impairing the hospital's functioning.
The hearing, which is expected to end Rothstein's term, will immediately mark a tumultuous tenure. He took office in January 2016, after 11 years managing the Sheba Tel Hashomer Hospital, and since then his path has been fraught with struggles, clashes, and events that have shaken the hospital. This is against the background of Hadassah's difficult economic situation, which took place under the auspices of a recovery program and thanks to more than a billion shekels it received from the state coffers.
During the time he ran the hospital, Rothstein clashed with the Hadassah Women's Organization, which he owns, with officials in the Ministry of Finance, with hospital staff and with senior doctors. One of the most memorable events of his tenure is the conflict with the staff of the pediatric hemato-oncology department at Hadassah Ein Kerem, which ended in a demonstrative resignation of all the doctors in the department and provoked public criticism.
In and out of the hospital, Rothstein has been widely criticized in recent years. Thus, he was accused of giving preferential treatment to various factors, including those close to the Rebbe of Gur, and it was alleged that he did whatever he pleased and showed contempt for the employees. Hadassah's board tried to restrain Rothstein, but without success.
At the end of 2019, Hadassah women approached the directors of the Ministries of Health and Finance, calling for Rothstein to be fired and claiming that his behavior was driving away donors from the hospital. Tensions between the parties increased last March due to the appointment of former Minister Dalia Itzik Upon approval of the appointment, the hospital estimated that Itzik would fire the manager.
"We have given him opportunities more than once or twice," sources at Hadassah claimed tonight. "He despises, thinks he is above everyone else, does things on his own and his conduct impairs the functioning of the hospital," claim sources at Hadassah.
The Hadassah Board of Directors stated: "The Board of Directors unanimously decided to summon Prof. Rothstein to a hearing to consider terminating his employment with Hadassah. And the well-being of the hundreds of thousands of patients treated in it. " Prof. Rothstein himself did not respond.
