One of the most memorable events of his tenure is the conflict with the staff of the pediatric hemato-oncology department at Hadassah Ein Kerem, which ended in a demonstrative resignation of all the doctors in the department and provoked public criticism.
In and out of the hospital, Rothstein has been widely criticized in recent years. Thus, he was accused of giving preferential treatment to various factors, including those close to the Rebbe of Gur, and it was alleged that he did whatever he pleased and showed contempt for the employees. Hadassah's board tried to restrain Rothstein, but without success.
At the end of 2019, Hadassah women approached the directors of the Ministries of Health and Finance, calling for Rothstein to be fired and claiming that his behavior was driving away donors from the hospital.
