Ben-Gurion Airport Breaks Post-War Records: Nearly 2.3 Million Passengers in August 2025

Just weeks after the end of the conflict with Iran, Ben-Gurion Airport has emerged as a symbol of recovery and resilience for Israel’s aviation sector. In August 2025, the airport recorded 2,265,324 passengers, a figure not seen since before the events of October 7, 2023.

On a single day in August, nearly 88,000 travelers passed through Ben-Gurion Airport — the highest daily volume in over 18 months, highlighting a rapid return to pre-war activity levels.

International Travel Sees 39% Surge

Out of the total passenger count, 2,203,973 were on international flights, representing a 38.9% increase compared to August 2024. Aircraft traffic rose accordingly, with 14,601 international takeoffs and landings, a 31.1% jump year-over-year.

Domestic flights also saw a rise, with 61,351 passengers traveling between Eilat and other cities, marking a 23% increase over last year.

Terminal 3 Leads; Israeli Airlines Dominate

• Terminal 3 served the bulk of passengers, exceeding 2 million travelers, while Terminal 1 handled 131,553 international passengers.

• Israeli airlines — including Arkia, Israir, and Blue Bird Airways — transported 1,351,853 passengers, securing over 61% of market share, up 30% from August 2024.

Top Destinations: Greece, Larnaca, and the U.S.

• Larnaca, Cyprus, was the top single destination, with 166,027 passengers, a 14% increase.

• Greece was the leading country destination overall, with 427,925 passengers, accounting for nearly 20% of all international traffic.

• Notable increases were also observed in flights to the United States and the United Arab Emirates, signaling renewed confidence in long-haul travel.

Air Cargo Sector Also Soars

The cargo sector continued its upward trend with 35,021 tons transported in July 2025, up 25% from the previous year. Of that:

• 8,906 tons were transported via passenger aircraft.

• 26,115 tons moved on dedicated cargo planes.

Post-War Recovery Fuels Aviation Comeback

These figures reflect not just a return to normalcy, but a record-breaking resurgence in Israel’s aviation industry. The end of hostilities with Iran catalyzed pent-up demand for travel and trade, turning Ben-Gurion Airport, once a quiet symbol of wartime stagnation, into a bustling international hub once again.
