After last week's devastating attack on Cyberserv's servers and the disclosure of details from the Atref website: A denial of service (DDoS) attack shut down the DNS service of the Israeli company Domain the Net, which is one of the domain name registers (early evening). Domains) The largest in the country for co.il addresses on behalf of the Israeli Internet Association. According to many complaints from the company's customers who also came to us, many sites, estimated by several thousand, began to experience access issues and stopped receiving emails. As far as is known, this is not an extortion attempt and the attack has already ended, so access to the damaged sites has returned.
Many customers complained that they tried to contact the company but without success. One customer even told Calcalist that he did not have a number to contact in an emergency and that his contact at the company did not provide him with a cell phone number but only a number of the office.
The company's Facebook page was flooded with customer complaints when most of them complained that they were not getting a response from it. The company replied after a few hours in the post: "Hello to all applicants - we are currently experiencing exceptional traffic congestion, and as a result there may be intermittent disruptions to access to some of the services. The issue is being addressed and we apologize for the inconvenience."
According to information that reached us but was not verified, it is most likely an attack that came from outside Israel. Domain de Net claims an Iranian attack, but it is not clear what the circumstances are, and whether the incident is related to the Iranian attacks that hit a large number of Israeli companies in the past week.
However denial of service attacks are considered to be very simple to carry out and also relatively easy to block given that the company has the means to do so.
Some customers have started getting back access to their sites in the last hour, and the company’s website has also returned to availability after being blocked from browsing for several hours. Customers surfing from abroad may have difficulty accessing the company's sites due to blockages implemented by the company's staff.
The company's management said: "There was indeed a DDoS attack on our DNS servers. The attack affected some of our customers, who use our DNS servers. In order to stop it we blocked traffic from abroad, so some legitimate traffic was blocked. No server was compromised. There is no effect on registering domain names. This is apparently an Iranian attack. This is an attack at the state level. We are dealing with the issue in cooperation with the national cyber system. "
The Israeli network has experienced quite a few attacks in recent months. Most of them are of Iranian or state-hostile origin. Among other things, the sites of Atref, a network of Moore Institute clinics stored on the servers of the Cyberserv company that were attacked last weekend by the hacker group Black Shado, which is affiliated with Iran, were damaged. Before that, Hillel Yaffe Hospital in Hadera was attacked.
