A 68% jump in the number of new dwellings sold in September this year, which stood at 3,459 compared to 2,050 sold last September; This emerges from data from the annoying bureau of statistics published on Thursday.
According to the data in total in the third quarter of 2020 (July-September 2020), 10,140 new apartments were sold - a jump of about 19% compared to the corresponding quarter last year, in which 8,467 new apartments were sold. The CBS data is similar to the analysis of the chief economist at the Ministry of Finance, Shira Greenberg, published on Sunday. According to Greenberg, 9,600 second-hand and new apartments were sold in September this year, one of the highest figures in September in the last twenty years.
In a report published today by the CBS, the number of transactions for the purchase of a new apartment was counted only, and it can also be learned from it that the economic crisis and the Corona closures did not keep buyers away from sales offices, on the contrary - caused them to attack apartments. The Ministry of Finance found a technical reason for the new increase in the number of transactions in September - a desire of the buyers to complete the transaction quickly before the traffic restrictions imposed in the second closure took effect.
CBS data may even be updated upwards in the coming months, as they are based on reports from construction companies that often arrive after the report is published.
The data also show that most of the transactions for the purchase of a new apartment were made in the central (2,609 dwellings) and southern (2,644 dwellings) districts, so that in both districts about half of the total transactions were carried out. In the Tel Aviv District, 1,774 apartments were sold, in the Jerusalem District 945, in the Northern District 803 apartments and in Judea and Samaria, 244 new apartments were sold.
The CBS report presents the requested quantity of new dwellings, a figure that weights the number of transactions for the sale of a new dwelling together with dwellings that have begun construction and not for sale (for example dwellings of purchasing groups or self-construction). According to the survey, in the third quarter of the year construction began on 3,400 unsold apartments, so the requested amount of new apartments was 13,540 - compared to 11,014 in the second quarter, an increase of 23%. That is, the entire increase in the number of apartments requested is due to the quarterly increase in the number of transactions for the purchase of a new apartment.
