Police forces and inspectors of the Jerusalem Municipality evacuated 30 protesters from a protest tent set up in front of the Prime Minister's Residence on Monday. The demonstrators claim to have been forcibly evicted, but the Jerusalem municipality denied and claimed that these were false allegations. "One of the inspectors pulled out a knife and cut me in the forehead when he came to cut the sign I was holding," said Roi Peleg, one of the protesters. Five of them were lightly injured in the clashes and were treated by MDA teams who were called to the scene. One of them was taken to the hospital.
At 05:45, the evacuation began at 6 Ben Maimon Street in front of the Prime Minister's residence. The protesters say that about 50 IDF police and inspectors arrived on the scene without issuing a legal order, "They stormed 30 women and adults sleeping in the tent, all of our personal equipment from personal bags to sleeping bags, signs, refrigerators and generators. All while using violence. "
Reserve Brigadier General Amir Hashakel, who was arrested about two weeks ago, said this morning that "despite the understandings reached yesterday between MK Miki Levy and a senior Jerusalem municipality official regarding the continuation of his stay in Balfour, a pogrom was carried out this morning." He said that at 05:45, about 50 YSM police and municipal inspectors arrived in the area and wreaked havoc on the site. "Democracy is on fire, there is no way we can get our hands on it."
MK Moshe Ya'alon addressed the evacuation this morning and attacked Minister of Internal Security Amir Ohana. "Netanyahu's defense minister again fired Jerusalem policemen and her supervisors this morning against heroes of the Balfour protest. By force, by violence, by intimidation, without presenting a legal order, and by the rampage that caused civilian injury and equipment destruction, Netanyahu is trying to suppress the protest and fortify the dictatorship. It will not help him! ", He wrote on his Twitter account.
The Movement for Quality Government said after the demonstrators were evacuated: "The conduct of the Israeli police and inspectors of the Jerusalem Municipality is violent, blatant and unnecessary. The movement encourages its members to participate in protests to maintain the quality of government and the purity of dimensions."
