Nearly Half of Electric Scooter and Bike Owners in Israel Report Thefts, Survey Reveals
Posted on Jun 3, 2025 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski
A new national survey has revealed a concerning trend for electric bicycle and scooter owners in Israel: nearly half have had their vehicle stolen at least once. The survey, conducted by Ituran in collaboration with the Geocartography Institute, highlights the growing challenge of two-wheeled vehicle theft in urban and suburban areas across the country.
Key Findings: High Rates of Repeated Thefts
The survey found that:
-
28% of respondents reported having their vehicle stolen once
-
11% reported theft twice
-
4% had their vehicle stolen three times
-
2% reported their vehicle had been stolen more than three times
In total, 45% of all respondents have experienced at least one theft of their electric bike, scooter, or tricycle.
Older Riders More Vulnerable
Theft appears to be more prevalent among older users. The survey showed that:
-
37% of riders aged 55 and older reported at least one theft
-
In comparison, only 27% of those aged 18–34 reported the same
This data suggests that older riders may be more vulnerable to theft, possibly due to less secure storage options or less frequent use of anti-theft technology.
Theft Hotspots: Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and the Center
According to the geographic breakdown:
-
31% of reported thefts occurred in the Jerusalem area
-
28% in Tel Aviv and the Central region
-
20% in the Sharon region
These urban areas are known for high usage of electric personal vehicles, making them prime targets for theft.
