Ministry of Communications: uniform price for fiber-optic web-based services
Posted on Jun 26, 2020 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski
The Ministry of Communications has decided on a uniform price for fiber-optic web-based services. The goal is to prevent some players from lowering prices in demand areas and raising prices where there is no demand.
One of the sensitive issues regarding the regulation of Bezeq's fiber deployment in the State of Israel is the issue of universalism and gaps between the periphery and the center. Since in Israel the universal deployment obligation is removed from all operators, the firm fears that a situation will occur in certain areas where there will be no competition and not all operators will go there with fiber optics, operators can use different pricing practices in different places. For example, with a certain operator deploying fiber in the center area, and offering promotions and discounts in the same area, he would have to offer the same discounts on all the Internet infrastructure he sells regardless of the technology itself. In other words, the price for 200 mega in Afula will be the same price in Raanana, no matter what technology the operator uses and whether it is his or her fiber from another operator.
