The cleanliness of the public space affects the lives of all residents and residents of the State of Israel. The level of cleanliness produces a sense of belonging, social resilience, environmental awareness and quality of life. On Monday, the Ministry of the Environment announces a new national plan to clean the public space in the local authorities in Israel, with a budget of NIS 150 million for three years. The assistance will be provided to the local authorities to improve the level of cleanliness in their territory.
The Ministry of the Environment is promoting this national plan for the cleansing of local authorities in accordance with the policies already implemented in Western countries. The plan includes a number of actions, most notably the determination of a measure of cleanliness and monitoring of public space, as the importance of cleanliness for residents is increasing.
In addition, the program includes providing tools and support to local authorities in clean-up operations and infrastructure to create a clean space; Increased oversight and enforcement of waste dumps in the public space; And increasing public awareness and public awareness of cleanliness - culminating in the annual cleanup day. The Ministry intends to work together with the Nature and Parks Authority to make the Clean Day a meaningful educational activity with the public, to increase resources considerably, and to raise public awareness throughout the year.
As a preliminary step to the plan, the Ministry, in collaboration with the Society for the Protection of Nature, conducted a clean-up survey of 7 representative authorities in Israel, in which more than 10,000 items that were scattered in the public space were collected at various sites. The survey found that a significant amount of waste disposed of in the interior was cigarettes and cigarette packs (37% of items), paper waste (18%) and disposable tools (13%). The survey also found that less than half of those surveyed (only about 45%) discarded the waste they had.
