Mercantile Bank Unveils AI-Powered Budget Optimization System for Local Authorities

Posted on Jul 21, 2025 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski

At last week’s Central Local Government Conference, Mercantile Bank unveiled a suite of advanced financial and technological solutions aimed at helping local authorities better manage their budgets. The centerpiece of the bank’s presentation was its AI-based Smart Budget Optimization System, developed to address one of the most pressing challenges facing local governments: fully utilizing available budget resources.

Despite billions of shekels being earmarked annually for municipal use, a significant portion of public funds remains unclaimed and unused. The Smart Budget Optimization System is designed to close that gap by helping local authorities identify, access, and maximize financial resources from hundreds of sources—including government, public, and philanthropic funds.

The platform offers:

  • Custom grant search based on authority profile

  • Automated tracking of applications and deadlines

  • Bureaucratic and technical support for budget execution

  • Full integration with MESKEL's “Easy-to-Read” platform, exposing the system to local governments nationwide

The tool was successfully piloted and has now been rolled out more broadly, signaling a major shift in how municipalities manage funding and development initiatives.

On-the-Ground Presence and Commemoration

Mercantile Bank hosted a booth at the conference, providing information about its new municipal services. The booth was dedicated to the memory of Sergeant Tomer Nagar, who fell defending the Kisufim outpost during the October 7, 2023 attack.

The booth also welcomed Eli Sharabi, a survivor of captivity, who signed copies of his new book, Captured.

Leadership Remarks: Supporting Municipal Resilience

Mercantile Bank CEO Barak Nardi opened the bank’s session with a tribute to local authorities:

“Local authorities are the backbone of Israeli society – not only in routine, but especially in challenging times like these. As the home bank of local authorities, it is our duty to provide them with advanced tools to help them serve their residents better.”

Nardi emphasized that the new optimization system complements the bank’s ongoing suite of customized services for municipalities, municipal corporations, suppliers, and employees.

Dudi Maimon, Vice President and Head of Mercantile’s Commercial Banking Division, added:

“Our long-standing relationship with the municipal sector has allowed us to deeply understand their needs. The systems we are presenting today are a direct response to those needs—practical, tailored, and built on true partnership.”

Mercantile Bank’s presence at the conference, along with the launch of its AI-powered budget optimization platform, reflects a growing emphasis on digital transformation in the public sector. By simplifying access to funding and improving financial oversight, the bank aims to empower local governments to better serve their residents and withstand future challenges.
