Negotiations between El Al's management and the employee representative - resumed

Posted on May 4, 2020 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski

Negotiations between El Al's management and the employee representative resumed in an attempt to reach agreements on the recovery plan.
The employees will meet at 4 pm today with the company's management in three rounds, divided into three sectors: maintenance workers, air crews and management. Each sector will present the concessions it is prepared for. The meetings will also be attended by Avi Edri, the Histadrut's representative, Prof. Yaron Zelicha, who advises the workers' representatives, and they will be held in the office of Judith Grisro, Human Resources VP and Director of El Al.
Attempts by pilot employees to split from employee representation and function as a separate committee were unsuccessful. The Histadrut did not agree to the move and also failed to vote on the move. On the eve of the resumption of negotiations, there is a big gap between the demands of El Al's management and the Treasury, and the workers. As a reminder, the airline is required to save about $ 220 million a year in its expenses.
There are two main disputes between the employees and the management, and among themselves - the workers' representation refuses to be dismissed by the maintenance workers, claiming that those who are primarily responsible are the high-paying employees - the pilots and senior management, and not the maintenance workers, the large part of whom earn low wages. The pilots argue that the mission's position, which refuses to dismiss, is irrelevant to the new reality. The pilots are ready for layoffs and salary cuts but provided the company ensures that in the day when you return to a proper business move, their previous pay terms or alternatively will be reimbursed through stock receipt, a condition that management opposes and is not willing to limit the pay cut period. In addition, pilots are prepared for salary concessions up to 20% of their salary, while management requires higher concessions of at least 30%. Both pilots and maintenance workers feel that they are "victims" and on their back alone fund the recovery plan.
