Israel Bank: Disabling kindergartens and day care centers for another week will result in a loss of NIS 2 billion

Disabling kindergartens and day care centers for another week will result in a loss of NIS 2 billion. This emerges from a statement issued by the Bank of Israel, in light of the fierce debate in the government over the opening of kindergartens and day care centers.
The Bank's statement states that "The Bank of Israel does not, of course, decide whether it is right to open the gardens now or not, but the Bank's assessment of the value of the downtime, or the cost of deciding to open it, is of great economic importance."
It is hard not to see the announcement at this time of the Bank of Israel's stabilization behind the Treasury and the Ministry of Education's positions for the opening of kindergartens and dormitories.
Last week, the Bank of Israel estimates that disabling the entire education system will result in a loss of NIS 2.6 billion. The Bank of Israel's announcement today highlights the fact that the vast majority of the damage comes from children aged 6-0.
The bank's statement indicates that unless the kindergartens and daycare centers open next week, 300,000 parents will be forced to stay home. Therefore, the benefit to the economy of opening only grades 1-3 is extremely limited and prevents only a quarter of the loss of GDP.
On the other hand, the Bank of Israel does not address the question of the partial opening of kindergartens and dormitories in half-week studies, and how much it helps the economy or prevents damage.
