The Ministry of Education today announced the cancellation of most of the matriculation exams, which were scheduled to begin in early May in high school. The Ministry announced the tests in an emergency format, in only three or five subjects, including three compulsory subjects: Hebrew or Arabic, mathematics and English. In addition, two additional exams will be conducted in the subjects chosen by the school - an examination in a scientific subject and another examination in a human subject. Usually, high school students take at least six matriculation exams.
In addition to the exams in the three compulsory subjects, schools will choose to take an exam in one of the following subjects: literature, bible, history or citizenship, and in another scientific subject from the cluster of sciences - chemistry, physics, biology or computer science.
Also, exam study materials will be cut, and focus will be announced next week. The Ministry of Education announced that marathon practice material for the matriculation exams will be conducted by distance education.
The ministry also announced the postponement of the tests, which were due in early May, for June 22. The test season will end at the end of July, and students will be able to attend the end of July as well. The exam schedule will be spacious and allow students to prepare for exams without pressure, so that one exam is held each week.
