Ituran Launches Biometric Vehicle Security System, Replacing Traditional Keypads

Posted on Jul 27, 2025 by Ifi Reporter - Dan Bielski

Ituran, a leader in automotive technology, has unveiled Ituran KEY, a revolutionary biometric vehicle security system that eliminates the need for traditional keypads and access codes. The new system allows drivers to deactivate their car’s security system via smartphone, using facial recognition or fingerprint identification.

In most vehicles today, a four-digit code is required to disable the security system before starting the engine. Ituran KEY completely removes that step by integrating biometric technology into a mobile app. The driver can authenticate their identity through the app and deactivate the system with a single tap, without physically entering a code or using a keypad inside the vehicle.

"We're changing the way drivers interact with their cars," said an Ituran spokesperson. "Convenience, security, and user experience are at the core of this innovation."

Backup and Multi-User Functionality Built In

In case the driver's phone battery dies, Ituran KEY comes with a backup remote control that can be used to deactivate the system. The app also allows for multiple users, making it easy to add family members or authorized drivers, each with access to the same secure functionality on their mobile devices.

Adopted by Leading Car Importers

The system has already been integrated into vehicles distributed by leading car importers and is expected to become standard in new vehicles shortly. This aligns with a broader trend in the automotive world, where smartphones are evolving into a central control hub for:

  • Insurance management

  • Payments

  • Connected services

  • Security system control

A Leap into the Future of Automotive Security

Ituran KEY represents a technological leap toward smarter, safer, and more intuitive vehicle security. By leveraging biometric identification, the system not only improves user convenience but also enhances data security and theft prevention.

As the automotive industry increasingly embraces digital transformation, solutions like Ituran KEY underscore the shift toward seamless, app-based experiences that put control in the driver’s hands—literally.
