Social Security announced a number of easements for self-employed and employers due to the Corona crisis: This is a postponement of Social Security and Health Insurance payments for April and their deployment for several months, as well as a complete freeze on enforcement actions. Among other things, no new foreclosures will be imposed and the handling of existing foreclosures will be rejected. The National Insurance Institute explains that deferring payments to employers in just a few weeks will not be beneficial to them, but will only postpone the payment after Passover which involves large expenses anyway. The amount that their payment will be rejected is NIS 6.5 billion, of which NIS 4.2 billion is for Social Security and 2.2 for health insurance.
On relief, Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Ophir Akunis and National Insurance Director Meir Spiegeler yesterday sat down with the top of the office and CEO of the Employment Service. Their accumulated leave as a condition of receiving unemployment benefits.
In the meantime, all the reliefs announced were those that the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs can decide for themselves. The question is whether there will be further discussions on measures that require legislative changes and budget increases, such as granting unemployment benefits to the self-employed or extending the ridiculous eligibility period of young people who are only three months old.
Minister of Labor and Welfare Ophir Akunis said that "the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare has a significant role in trying to relieve employees and employers in the economy. The request of self-employed and employers has fallen on attentive ears." National Insurance Director Meir Spiegeler said that "Social Security is attentive to the difficulties and empathizes with the hardships these days employers and self-employed people are facing and I intend to look at every way to help and alleviate them during this time."
