The US Treasury has removed Gen. Israel Ziv, and his own companies, from the black list of arms dealers who allegedly captured the bloody conflict in South Sudan.
This is an update from the Foreign Assets Supervision Division at the US Treasury Department (OPAC) released Wednesday. The significance of the decision that the economic sanctions and asset freeze orders imposed on Ziv in December 2018 - will be abolished.
Ziv vehemently denied all allegations against his companies operating in South Sudan, claiming that he operates agricultural farms in the country and has nothing to do with the sale of weapons. After Ziv's entry into the list, Israeli banks, including Leumi, also froze activity on accounts under his control.
As a result of the US release, the Defense Department's Defense Exports Department questioned Lazio and issued a statement saying he did not find Ziv involved in illegal activity. Ziv, for example, launched U.S. sanctions procedures, and also harassed South Sudanese officials to help him remove the sanctions.
According to a statement issued by Ziv this evening: "No charges have been found against him, no further proceedings have been taken against him. A UN Security Council expert has investigated the allegations and found no evidence and evidence of arms trafficking in South Sudan in recent years. The UN team of experts even praised the cooperation and transparency of Gen. Ziv and the Global Group, emphasizing that the Ziv agricultural farm project he founded and managed Ziv is genuine and vital. "
"I am very happy that justice has been published," the statement read. "About a year ago without any prior warning, I was struck by a thunderstorm on a clear day, accusations that tarnished my good name and harmed me and my business without any injustice at all. The time it took to manage the inquiry
Faced with the US administration and the additional difficulties that have been inflicted on me by elements in the country, it certainly did not help. However, all along, I was convinced, above all doubt, that there was no basis for imposing the sanctions, which was the result of misinformation, and that finally the fairness and credibility of the American authorities would lead them to the correct conclusion and truth - as I did in fact remove from the list and abolish the sanctions. "
The statement also reads: "I and my companies have not engaged and are not engaged in the sale of weapons or any illegal acts. I am glad that I can now rehabilitate the agricultural project we have been working on and set up in South Sudan."
The Ministry of Defense said: "The Ministry of Defense is not a party to the proceedings. Major General (res.) Israel Ziv updated the office and we welcome it."
