The Electricity Authority has decided to reduce electricity tariffs. The home consumer tariff will fall by an average of four percent and thirteen percent of the percentage
The economy rate will be reduced by five percent and three-tenths of an average on average
The Electricity Authority, which regulates the electricity tariffs in the economy, reports this morning that the official hearing to determine the tariff for next year ended, with the decision being reduced by 4.13% in the home tariff and a 5.3% reduction in the industrial tariff, street light, etc.
Therefore, from January, consumers will pay about 53 cents per kilowatt / hour, instead of about 55 cents today. The new tariff reduction embodies the effects of connecting a whale reservoir to the network. Contrary to various media reports, the entry of a whale reservoir contributed about 3.3% to the tariff reduction.
Also contributed to the reduction: a reduction in coal prices (a reduction of 4.1% of total costs in 2019); Sale of the Alon Tavor power plant as part of the electricity company reform (reduction of 3.9%); Egyptian Gas Compromise - Compensation of Electricity Consumers for Egypt's Non-Supply of Natural Gas (1.4% reduction) and a relatively minor update of operating a "pumped storage" facility (electricity generation using water-powered turbines from an artificial reservoir) that is expected to begin operation by 2020.
On the other hand, the Electricity Authority cites a number of factors that partially offset the tariff reduction, with a massive increase in the entry of renewable energy and the addition of facilities replacing pollutant production, most of which are subsidized by the state (a rate increase of about 3%). In fact, this is the second consecutive time that the introduction of "green" power plants has hit the tariff, with a calculation of government subsidy of 3.12% in early 2019.
The Electricity Authority also found another offset in the form of previous year's tax returns (an increase of about 1.3%), and the clause might be changed in Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon's decision, and he returned to collect tax on the use of coal.
Yiftach Chairman of the Electric Company Ron Tal, commented this morning on the reduction that also comes from connecting a whale reservoir (whose electricity company is his client), saying "this is a real gospel for customers. The IEC has led a series of business moves as part of the implementation of the reform and the results are immediately reflected. I applaud the decision and am proud of the contribution of the reform to lower the cost of living in Israel. "
