Extensive research shows that the effluent used for irrigating vegetables and fruits contains about seventy non-decomposing chemicals, including those used in the pharmaceutical industry. The study was conducted at the Faculty of Agriculture and the School of Public Health at the Hebrew University and examined about three hundred fields throughout the country. The Ministry of Health said that the data were known and there were no concentrations found to be a danger to public health. "Effluent irrigation is carried out in many countries, to a large extent. There are no states that have restricted the concentration of these effluents in legislation, but the ministry will continue to examine the research information in the field," the response reads.
